Running pace calculator
Work out your pace from a run, or predict a finish time for a race distance at a given pace.

How this calculation works
Pace is your total time divided by distance, expressed as minutes per km or mile. To predict a race finish time, this multiplies your pace (in minutes per km) by the race distance in km — race distances entered in miles are first converted to km for a consistent calculation.
Health note: Predicted times are estimates. If you are new to running or have a health condition, check with a doctor before starting or increasing training.
Tips
Even pacing beats a fast start
Predicted times assume you hold the same pace for the whole distance — real races often need a more conservative early pace since fatigue slows most runners in the final stretch.
Pace is not speed
Pace is minutes per distance, while speed is distance per hour. A pace of 6:00 per km is 10 km/h.
Predictions assume even effort
Longer races usually slow the pace, so treat marathon predictions from short-run paces as optimistic.
Mile and kilometre paces
A pace of 8:00 per mile is about 4:58 per km. Pick the unit your watch or race uses.
Frequently asked questions
Does this account for hills or terrain?
No, it's a flat, steady-pace estimate. Hilly or technical courses will typically run slower than this prediction.
Half marathon and marathon distances look oddly specific — why?
21.0975 km and 42.195 km are the exact official race distances (13.1 and 26.2 miles), not rounded figures.
