How this calculation works

Each grade converts to grade points on a 4.0 scale (A = 4.0 down to F = 0.0). GPA is the credit-weighted average: multiply each course’s grade points by its credit hours, add those up, then divide by the total credit hours — so a 4-credit course counts twice as much as a 2-credit course.

Worked example

One 4-credit A (4.0), one 3-credit B (3.0) and one 3-credit C (2.0): (4×4.0 + 3×3.0 + 3×2.0) ÷ (4+3+3) = 31 ÷ 10 = 3.1 GPA.

Tips

Leave unused rows blank

Rows with no credit hours entered are simply skipped, so you don't need exactly five courses to get an accurate GPA.

This is an unweighted 4.0 scale

Some schools give extra points for honours or AP classes. If yours does, your official GPA may be higher than the result here.

Enter the grades you expect this semester to see what cumulative GPA you could reach.

Credit hours change the weight

A grade in a 4-credit course moves your GPA twice as much as the same grade in a 2-credit course.

Does my school use the same scale?

Grading scales vary between institutions — check your school's official scale if you need an exact, transcript-matching GPA.
